Roger

A little about the portfolio career of our Chief Enabler, Roger – aka Rog42

I recently had the opportunity of being interviewed by IggyPintado on his “Reel People” series. Iggy does a good job of summarising the salient points in less than 30 seconds.

You can also find out my potted career history on LinkedIn. In a nutshell though, my passion for people and technology has led me to enable people and organisations in every situation from the mission field & the yacht delivery business, to the world’s largest telecommunications company & the world’s largest software company.

Closer to home, I get a lot from my dad, who believes

“If you can read, and put your mind to it, you can do anything.”

I certainly enjoy learning new skills. From guitar to scuba diving, power boating to videography, I try new things every year. In 2009 that included my first chopper flight, as student pilot, and my first bungee jump. Oh yeah, and there’s the drums I bought (try and explain that one to the CFO!).

I also get a lot from my mum, who opens her house, and espouses

“A friend of yours is a friend of mine.”

It’s probably what drove me to co-found the Sydney Mobile Usergroup, the North West Coffee Mornings, and find myself actively involved in a number of community groups.

As a parent of four daughters, I’m learning both patience, and empathy. The former for when I don’t get the latter down. Not to mention having a bunch of fun along the way.

As often the case, I’ve learned the most about myself from my wife, Lucy. We got engaged on our first date, married 5 months later, and have been married (successfully if not perfectly) for over 15 years. The self-awareness I realised?

“Success is not a function of analysis, preparation, or even the decision you make being “right;” but rather a function of daily commitment to the decision you made.”

That’s some of my story, which includes getting a South African accent, 9 schools, 2 years of national service (courtesy of acquiring that accent), meeting my biological dad at 25, amongst other things.

Enough, however, about me. If you’ve taken the time to read all this, thanks. I’d love to find out more about you. You can schedule a meeting with me during my available times on Tungle.me
